Are aeroponics sustainable?

Aeroponics is a remarkably sustainable system, in terms of space, water, and chemical use. Aeroponics do not require the use of chemical herbicides, fungicides, or other biocides because their growing environment is virtually sterile. Plants do require nutrients in their pure mineral forms, but uptake is so efficient that none is wasted and so less is used overall.

Aeroponics systems are not dependent on arable land, quality soil, or suitable climate. Fresh, nutritious food can be grown anywhere, even in spaces much too small for a traditional backyard garden, especially when vertical techniques are used. When food is grown in the midst of urban developments, the resources needed to move that food to market is minimized, and the quality of produce available is top notch.
