The sheer physical weight of traditional rubber liners can significantly complicate an installation and increase your labor costs. A 45-mil EPDM liner for a mid-sized pond can weigh over 500 lbs, making it nearly impossible for a small DIY team to maneuver without specialized equipment. This weight makes it difficult even to get the liner into position without damaging it.
Dragging a massive, unreinforced sheet over a sharp rock or an uneven subgrade can cause scuffs or tears before the pond is even filled. Choosing a reinforced RPE liner, which provides more strength at one-third the weight, gets you a faster, safer installation with fewer people and less risk of accidental damage.
