If proper precautions are not taken, there is an increased risk of condensation or excess moisture under a silage cover. Condensation typically occurs when there is a significant temperature difference between the inside and outside of the silage stack.
To mitigate the risks associated with localized areas of excess moisture due to condensation, farmers may elect to use covers specifically designed to allow moisture evaporation while maintaining an airtight seal for the silage itself in order to to ensure proper ventilation.
