Can a greenhouse provide income?

Greenhouses can provide income by selling raw produce, or by using your harvests to produce meals, products, etc. You can sell excess fruits and vegetables in local farmers markets or roadside stands. Some "farm-to-table" restaraunts are more than happy to buy directly from local farmers. You can reach out to your neighbors in order to start a produce program, delivering fresh vegetables and fruits to their door in exchange for money or other goods/materials. Take a look around and see what's in demand and what you can grow at reasonable expense with a markup that actually brings you a profit for your time and effort. Fresh salad greens, strawberries (especially out of season), vine-ripe tomatoes, even mushrooms may be good candidates. Keep your mind open and talk to people. Keep in mind that your best selling products may change from season to season.

You can also use your greenhouse to start a business all of your own, if you have the entrepeneurial spirit! There are lots of ways to do this, from designing your own signature hot sauces, jams and jellies, baked goods, ciders, etc. Some local grocery stores will purchase directly from you. Otherwise, it's never been easier to start your own virtual store and begin shipping your homegrown products worldwide.
