Durable silage covers are extremely versatile tools easily adapted to many agricultural needs. Durable, inexpensive silage covers can greatly improve efficiency and improve soil health on farms by eliminating the need for chemical weed supporession, supporting the practice of no- or low-till farming, and even accelerating bed preparation.
Weed suppression is achieved without chemicals by the practive of occultation: spreading silo covers over beds and cutting off light to existing weeds or germinating seeds. This same technique also allows low- or no-till farmers to effectively incorporate green manure into their beds. Soil covered with silage covers collects and retains heat and is also protected from early rains. When the soil can be prepped early, so can the planting.
