Some produce is attuned to winter temperatures, while others can still thrive through the holidays if placed within a temperature controlled and heated greenhouse. A heated greenhouse prevents the internal temeperature from dropping too low. This can be simply to prevent freeze damage, or used to create an entirely artificial environment. Even summer-loving produce can thrive in a greenhouse warm enough.
Cold frames are a popular choice to protect from frost damage in the winter. This is a small, lightweight frame that allows sun to pass through, but otherwise shields and covers the plants as they sprout. This protects delicate sprouts, and keeps them warm during cold nights.
