A high-strength reinforced liner can be anchored more efficiently because the material does not stretch or slip under the weight of the water. Stretchy, unreinforced materials like EPDM rely on massive, deep anchor trenches and heavy backfill to stay in place. This requires more excavation labor and more stone to secure the edges, adding to your total project budget.
Because reinforced RPE has high dimensional stability, it maintains its shape and position even on steep slopes. Smaller, more streamlined anchor trenches that require less digging and less stone to lock the liner in place are often acceptable, depending on the specs of your pond. Check with your fabricator: a material with superior structural integrity may be the key to reducing the time and expense of securing the pond’s perimeter.
