Landscape fabric can help reduce soil erosion by stabilizing the ground and keeping soil in place under mulch, gravel, or other coverings. By holding soil particles together, it prevents them from being washed away by rain or blown away by wind.
On slopes or hilly areas, properly secured fabric helps maintain the shape of planting beds and pathways, reducing runoff and sediment movement. While it does not replace more extensive erosion control methods for very steep or vulnerable areas, using fabric in combination with mulch, plants, or retaining structures can significantly slow soil loss.
