Landscape fabric does not completely stop all weeds, but it significantly reduces their growth. The fabric blocks most sunlight from reaching the soil, which prevents many weed seeds from sprouting.
However, over time, a small number of weeds may still appear, especially if dirt or mulch builds up on top of the fabric, creating a new surface where seeds can germinate. These weeds are usually extremely easy to pull because their roots don’t penetrate deeply.
