Detecting a lagoon leak in winter can be challenging because snow and ice hide many surface clues, but there are still signs to watch for. A steady drop in liquid level that cannot be explained by pumping, evaporation, or freezing is often the first indicator.
You might also notice unusually wet or soft spots around the outside of the lagoon, even when the surrounding ground is frozen. In some cases, ice on the lagoon surface may sag or form unevenly if liquid is escaping below it. Nearby ditches, tile lines, or low areas may show unexpected flow during cold weather, indicating that water is moving where it shouldn’t.
