Erosion control is supported by using geomembranes as a barrier to prevent soil erosion and sediment runoff. When properly installed, geomembranes cover and stabilize exposed surfaces such as waste rock piles or tailings dams. This reduces the risk of erosion caused by wind, rainfall, and surface water flow.
By sealing off these surfaces, geomembranes prevent the loss of soil particles and contaminants. This minimizes the environmental impact on surrounding ecosystems and waterways. Geomembranes also work well in tandem with other methods of erosion control like vegetative cover and surface treatments.
