Installing a pond liner in a koi pond starts with careful preparation of the pond site. After digging the desired shape and depth, remove any sharp rocks, roots, or debris that could damage the liner. Smoothing the surface and adding a protective underlayment helps shield the liner from punctures.
Unroll the liner and gently place it over the pond, allowing it to settle into the contours without stretching it tightly. It’s important to leave some excess around the edges to secure the liner later. Work out large wrinkles by hand, especially in corners and curves, but don’t worry about small folds. Once the liner is in place, begin filling the pond with water slowly. The weight of the water will press the liner into its final shape, making it easier to adjust as it fills.
