For proper installation, begin by removing existing weeds, rocks, and debris, and leveling the soil for a smooth surface. Once the ground is ready, roll out the fabric over the area, making sure it lies flat without wrinkles or folds.
Overlap panels by several inches to keep weeds from growing through the gaps, and secure the edges with landscape staples or pins to keep the fabric in place. When planting, cut small X-shaped holes just large enough for each plant. Avoid large gaps that could allow weeds to grow. After the fabric is positioned, cover it with mulch, gravel, or another protective layer to shield it from sunlight.
