Managing light levels in winter greenhouses is very important for happy, healthy plants. To maximize natural light, orient the greenhouse with its longest face pointing south, allowing for the best exposure to sunlight throughout the day. Keep the greenhouse clean by regularly washing the windows and covers to allow as much light in as possible.
If natural light isn’t enough, especially on cloudy days or in regions with limited sunlight, supplement with grow lights. LED grow lights are energy-efficient and provide the necessary spectrum for photosynthesis, helping plants thrive during the darker months. Ensure that the lights are placed at an appropriate distance from the plants to prevent burning or inadequate light levels. You can also use reflective surfaces, such as white walls or aluminum foil, to bounce more light onto plants, making the most of every available ray.
