Landscape staples or pins are typically used to secure fabric to the ground so it doesn't shift or lift. Press the U-shaped staples or T-shaped pins into the soil at regular intervals along the edges and seams.
Securing the fabric every few feet ensures the fabric remains flat and prevents it from shifting when mulch, gravel, or soil is added on top. On slopes or areas with loose soil, more frequent pinning may be necessary to keep the fabric stable. Press the pins firmly into the ground without stretching the fabric.
