Natural swimming ponds use regeneration zones, or mini-ecosystems, in order to filter out chemicals and negative bacteria. Water is constantly pumped from the swimming zone, into the regeneration zone, and back again. Plants and microbes found in the regeneration zone use the nutrients and waste found in the swimming zone as energy, absorbing them from the water. Clean water is then pumped back out into the swimming zone for humans to enjoy.
A combination of plants is often used within the regeneration zone. This includes entirely aquatic plants which grow underwater and provide valuable oxygen to the water. As well as floating or partially submerged plants which help in the filtration proces
