While there is a surplus of food in the world, it requires a massive amount of people and work in order to harvest, store, transport, and prepare food to appear in our stores. If there are people being laid off from the pandemic, that would result in less products being pushed out into stores. With gas prices also skyrocketing, that could become an issue with trucks traveling to stock grocery stores.
Food shortages happen when the supply can not keep up with the demand. With our constantly rising population growth within our country and others, thinking that we may get into a food shortage soon is not out of the question. The climate crisis altering the water and the land that we grow crops on is also a valid concern for food shortages.
