How many fish you're able to place in your nursery pond will depend on available feed for incoming fry and the resilience of your chosen fish, with an average optimal density of about 50-150 fry per cubic meter. A larger pond will of course be able to handle more fry, but a smaller pond will be easier to monitor and maintain.
The biggest fish should be removed from the nursery pond once they reach around 3 or 4 inches of length. If too-big fish are allowed to stay in the nursery with the younger fry, they may cannibalize or out-feed the smaller fish.
