In most cases, ADCs are applied once per day after the final load of waste is compacted, though operators may reapply them sooner if weather conditions or operational needs demand extra protection. Some reusable ADCs, such as synthetic tarps or liners, are placed over the waste in the evening and removed the next morning before new material is added. Other types, such as foams or processed organic materials, are left in place and may become part of the landfill structure over time.
