For deep ponds, thinner, reinforced liners like RPE are more cost-effective. Non-reinforced liners are vulnerable to the extreme pressure of the water column and will stretch as they're pushed into small irregularities in the subgrade. A stretched out liner is thinner, weaker, and more vulnerable to damage.
A reinforced liner like RPE, with a powerful woven scrim has more structural stability so it can withstand the pressure of a deep pond without stretching, thinning, or weakening.
