Aeroponics has some distinct advantages of hydroponics, but it ultimately depends on your plant choice and budget. Some plants, especially root vegetables like carrots and potatoes, do not thrive in when submerged in water, but they do very well in an aeroponics setup.
Other plants, particuarly large shrubs and trees, can be grown in a hydroponics setup that's suited to their needs. Often, it comes down to adequate support. A traditional aeroponics setup using foam collars or net cups don't have the strength to handle large plants, even larger fruiting plants, like pumpkins, require adaptations to work in an aquaponics system.
