Is aeroponics organic?

The National Organics Standards Board has consistently objected to calling soilless farming organic, since those practices don't involve improving the soil. Nonetheless, soilless farming techniques (including aeroponics), can produce vegetables, fruits, and herbs without any use of pesticides or chemicals.

Another sticking point for organic certification is the fact that the concentrated nutrients employed in aeroponics and hydroponics systems cannot be classified as organic, because they're minerals, and minerals, like metals and rocks, aren't living things (organic). While it's possible to use certified organic fertilizers in an aeroponics system, they're typically not 100% soluble, and any remaining particles are liable to clog spray heads and even damage the high pressure pumps in HPA systems.
