Is algae bad for nursery ponds?

Fry mainly eat planktonic algae in their youth, so this kind of algae is encouraged. However, competitors like weeds or other kinds of unwanted algae may discourage the growth of necessary algae. Excess weeds and algae will alsow take up valuable oxygen, which is necessary for fish to grow and live. Unwanted algae is mainly controled via prevention through frequent water changes, removing debris and excess algae, or chemical control.

If there is not enough plankton available for hungry fry, supplemental feed is typically added to the nursery tank each morning in the form of a fine powder.
