Is DWC a good hydroponic system?

DWC (Deep Water Culture) is a hydroponic method where roots remain fully submerged full time, as opposed to partially or periodically. This system requires maintaining a high level of dissolved oxygen in the water, as well as relatively frequent water changes. Maintaing ideal temperatures can be a challenge with DWC because the thermal mass of large volume of water can store and release a lot of heat. This can make DWC particularly challenging in the summer.

While DWC does require extra care in some areas, it's actually the simplest type of system to set up - even a few five gallon buckets will do, aided by an air pump, air stones, and net pots. With frequent water changes, a good nutrient solution and 24/7 aeration, DWC can provide maximum yields for very little effort. The system is low maintenance, simple and relatively inexpensive to setup, and generates rapid grwoth and great overall results.
