While EPDM is heavier and thicker than most kinds of pond liners, it is also more flexible and durable. A liner for a small pond can be handled by a couple of people with strong backs, although a team of friends and neighbors may be preferred for larger jobs.
Your EPDM liner will arrive carefully folded with instructions for spreading it in your excavation. Don't unfold it early! Once the material is spread out it becomes much more difficult to move and dragging it across the yard can cause damage from abrasions and punctures.
