Geothermal energy is heat from within the Earth that has been present since the original formation of the planet. It is contained in the rocks and fluids beneath the earth's crust, distributed through layers of magma several thousand miles thick. Much like solar energy, geothermal energy is sustainable, non-polluting, and available all over the world.
Geothermal energy has advantages over other green solutions like solar and wind power because the energy is 'direct-use'. Since heat doesn't have to be converted to some other form, like electricity, to be used, it's more efficient, sustainable and eco-friendly.
