Pond kits can look like a quick and easy way to dip your toes into the backyard pond experience, but those kits are designed for the lowest common denominator consumer, not the long-term success of the pond. The components are often the cheapest available, underpowered, and won't last. The same goes for the included liner.
In fact, the liners sold with these pond kits are often very misleading. An 8 x 10 foot liner sounds like a good size, but when it's placed into a hole with enough excess to anchor the liner, it will barely fit a 4 x 6 pond that's only 1 foot deep - definitely too shallow to support any fish.
