Is PVC dangerous?

PVC can leach some of the chemicals found in its manufacturing after enough time, and can be dangerous for humans or wildlife alike.

PVC is often made more flexible and durable through the use of plasticizers, which can evaporate or leach out of PVC. Over time, PVC releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air. Studies done by the EPA have shown that human exposure to these VOCs can lead to nausea, fatigue, dizziness, and ENT irritation. At room temperature, PVC is stable. However, the chemicals found within PVC manufacturing have a low boiling point, meaning that they can be quickly released in the case of even minor heating.
