Type 2 PVC contains some dangerous chemical additives, including lead and cadmium. These are found in the plasticizers added during PVC's manufacturing in order to make it more flexible and durable.
Over time, PVC releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air. Studies done by the EPA have shown that human exposure to these VOCs can lead to nausea, fatigue, dizziness, and ENT irritation. At room temperature, PVC is stable. However, the chemicals found within PVC manufacturing have a low boiling point, meaning that they can be quickly released in the case of even minor heating.
