It's important to overlap landscape fabric seams to prevent weeds from growing through gaps between sections. When placing multiple pieces, allow several inches of overlap so there are no exposed areas where sunlight can reach the soil.
Overlapping also helps the fabric stay in place as soil, mulch, or gravel is added on top, reducing the risk of movement or tearing. For areas with heavy weed pressure, a larger overlap may be beneficial. Secure the overlapped sections with landscape staples or pins so the fabric remains flat and effective.
