Landscape fabric may need replacing when it shows signs of wear, damage, or reduced effectiveness. Visible tears, holes, or frayed edges can allow weeds to grow through, reducing the barrier’s ability to control unwanted plants.
Fabric that has become brittle, discolored, or degraded from sunlight exposure no longer provides adequate protection. If soil, mulch, or debris has built up excessively and weeds are sprouting on top, the fabric can't do its job properly. Shifting or wrinkled sections that fail to lie flat can also create gaps for weed growth or drainage issues.
