Aquaponics imitates a natural ecosystem, reducing your water footprint and replacing many of the nutrients or additives that are required in soil-based agriculture. Since this form of growing requires no soil, it can be grown almost anywhere with electricity. Natural light that would be found in a greenhouse can be replaced with grow lamps, and the ability for this system to function indoors makes it incredibly attractive in places where sunlight, fertile soil, and/or available land is hard to come by.
