To install a pond liner, begin by measuring the pond area and excavating it to the desired shape and depth, ensuring smooth, vertical edges and a level base. After excavation, prepare the base by removing rocks, roots, or other protrusions from the bottom and sides to prevent damage to the liner. If you're using an underlayment, lay the panels out with a generous overlap to cushion the liner and reduce wear.
Once the underlayment is in place, carefully position the pond liner, allowing it to settle into the contours of the pond. It's important to leave extra material around the pond's edges for anchoring to secure the liner in place. Make sure the liner conforms completely to the pond's bottom and sides, and eliminate any wrinkles. If necessary, the liner can be neatly folded to conform to curves or sharp corners. Temporarily secure the edges of the liner as you slowly add water to allow the liner to conform to the shape of the excavation, carefully smoothing out any wrinkles that appear. Once the pond is full, secure the edges of the liner around the periphery of the pond so that it doesn't slip or move.
