Several methods can be used to keep your pond liner anchored and protected from shifting. An anchor trench or shelf is probably the most secure and least visible option, giving you plenty of flexibility in disguising the edges. Alternatively, you can place rocks or boulders around the edges, creating a natural barrier that holds the liner down and prevents it from being exposed to the elements. Larger stones can provide stability while enhancing the pond's aesthetics.
If easy access to the pond is important for maintenance and visual appeal, you can cover the liner edges with a generous layer of soil or gravel to weigh it down and integrate it into the surrounding landscape. Landscape staples or garden stakes can also be effective, especially when used along with soil or gravel for additional stability. Be sure to only use staples and stakes on the liner's apron and never near or below the waterline.
