What Happens To ADC Materials After They’Re Buried?

Once buried, daily cover materials become part of the landfill mass and gradually interact with the waste around them. Organic materials, such as green waste or compost, decompose over time, contributing to the breakdown of waste and the production of landfill gases.

Synthetic liners, foams, or plastics remain largely intact and do not break down quickly, but they continue to act as barriers between waste layers and can influence the movement of water and gas within the landfill. All materials are contained under the landfill’s final cover and monitored to prevent environmental contamination. Over time, the buried materials settle with the waste, helping with landfill stability while supporting long-term gas and leachate management systems.
