Woven and non-woven landscape fabrics differ mainly in how they’re made and how they perform in the landscape. Woven fabric is created by interlacing plastic fibers in a crisscross pattern, forming a strong, durable sheet that allows limited water and air flow. It’s often used in garden beds, around trees, or beneath mulch because it resists tearing and offers long-lasting weed control.
Non-woven fabric, on the other hand, is made from bonded fibers that create a felt-like texture. This type tends to be more porous, allowing for better drainage, and is commonly placed under gravel, pavers, or areas where water flow is important. While woven fabric provides greater strength and durability, non-woven fabric offers improved filtration and flexibility for projects that require good water movement through the soil.
