Nursery ponds serve as a safe place for vulnerable and small fry to develop the scales and fins that they grow in the fingerling stage. This vastly improves survival rates for fry, and gives them a fighting chance for resources once they're moved into later stages of grow tanks. Fry are also sensitive to stress and their environment, and a separate nursery pond is an excellent way to isolate fry in order to finetune their tank and conditions.
