What liners are best for brine ponds?

All brine ponds will need some kind of liner to prevent environmental contamination and product loss—but whereas most ponds may only need a clay liner, brine ponds require extra measures. Because the risk of environmental damage is high, brine ponds require flexible liners that are incredibly durable. No matter the pond’s size, the composition, or the concentration of the brine, flexible liners will always be the best choice for brine to be stored and processed.

That’s because these liners are less expensive than poured concrete, and they’re easier to install with less equipment. Because they’re flexible, they’re less prone to cracking. You’ll need to consider, however, that not all flexible liners are designed to handle the harshness of brine. PVC and other materials can degrade quickly, which is why many brine ponds rely on reinforced polyethylene (RPE) as a durable, long lasting liner.
