What materials are used for silage covers?

The most common materials used for silage covers are polyethylene plastic and ethylene-vinyl acetate. Both materials are extremely flexibile and available in different thicknesses and ability to permit light transmission.

In some cases, oxygen barrier films may be added as a second layer to minimize the possibility of oxygen intrusion into the silage. These films are often multi-layered and may include various polymer materials like nylon, EVOH, and polyethylenes.
