What should I stockpile for food shortages?

Staples like dried goods, pasta and grains, flour, rice, spices, and canned goods are all excellent basics to start stockpiling. Items that will hold up to the test of time and are sustaining are the most important to seek out first. Grains and canned goods will do much better in the long run as opposed to fresh veggies and fruits unless properly stored.

Canned goods and grains have a much longer shelf life than other items and are filling. However, there are goods such as potatoes, beets, carrots, onions and more that can be successfully stored in a cool cellar for several months. Rotating out these items on a set basis will help ensure the access to vegetables in addition to your canned goods and grains.
