What steps should you take prior to installing a farm pond liner?

Doing some of the work in advance will ensure that everything is ready to go once the pond liner arrives. Of course, you’ll want to have the pond site excavated in advance, but that’s not the only step to take. Also make sure drain systems are in place, and if you have experienced any heavy rains, monitor the pond’s site closely in advance of installing the liner since rains over freshly excavated soil can cause erosion bad enough to change the shape of the pond.

Another important step to take is to dig the trench that will secure the pond liner. Depending on the size of your pond, trenches can be anywhere between 6 and 30 inches wide, and 4 to 24 inches deep. These are essential for securing the liner around the pond’s edges.
