Yearround designs will have the ability to provide ideal conditions at most any time; however seasonal nursery ponds exposed to the elements do best when stocked in the early spring, or at any time that temperatures will be moderate and access will be easy. The stocking process is a stressful time for small fry, and ensuring that it goes as gently and smoothly as possibly is essential. This includes moving the fish in the early evening or midmorning so that they aren't shocked by sudden cold or heat.
Fry should be adjusted to nursery pond water by slowly adding the new water to their container, giving time between each addition to let the fish acclimate and water equalize. The nursery pond should be well stocked with planktonic algae to support the influx of hungry fry, and it's reccomended that the water is treated with a prophylactic to reduce chances of infection.
