Where Are Floating Silt Curtains Used?

Floating silt curtains are used for a variety of reasons, most often found around construction sites, urban centers, or even farms. Some curtains are short, meant to catch solids or liquids like oil near the top of the water’s surface. Others can stretch up to 60 feet underneath the water, catching particles and sediment floating deeper in the river or ocean.

Silt curtains can be used to protect local waterways from runoff silt or toxins from the land, or to help contain oil spills, or trash and objects floating on the water. This protects wildlife and plants from being suffocated from an increase in sediment, or being poisoned by chemical or hard metals found within solids or particles.
