Where Do You Place a Turbidity Curtain?

Waves, currents, and wind are all important factors to consider when placing your turbidity curtain. Typically, you’ll want to place your curtain downstream from your job or construction site, around the edge of the shoreline, allowing you to catch runoff sediment as it flows with the current. You very rarely want to reach your curtain across a channel flow, as it is meant to halt the flow of sediment, not the water itself. This can cause the floatation devices to become submerged. It's best to place the curtains parrallel or in-line with the direction of the water where they'll be most effective. In faster waters or places with rougher conditions, you should consult with a specialist that can calculate exactly how tides or currents will change how and where you need to attach your curtain.

What you’re wanting to catch and the conditions of the ground beneath the water will affect the type of curtain you use, and the anchors you employ to attach it. If build-up sediment is a concern, you may be allowed to remove the silt that has gathered, however, if done improperly, this removal can dislodge more particles on it’s own.
