Groundwater comes from precipitation and runoff that trickles into soil and earth. As water seeps into the soil it makes its way through the dirt until it finds pockets of water trapped by rocks and sediment. Here, the water collects until it is pulled out via a pump or through natural springs.
Groundwater is pulled up to the surface by pumps and wells in order to be used. Wells are bored into aquifers underground to access the water within.
