Where is aeroponics popular?

Aeroponics is popular around the world, and is employed in some unique locations. Here in the US, the Epcot Research Center in Walt Disney World, Florida, operates over 2.5 million square feet of active greenhouses, almost all of which employ hydroponics and aeroponics growing systems. Epcot has also partnered with NASA to find new ways of growing food for long term space missions.

Outside of the US, aeroponics is popular in deserts and very arid regions, where it's valued for is highly efficient water use. In large urban areas where fresh produce can be hard to come by, aeroponics is widely used because it can be used to produce fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables using minimal space, even in the middle of a city. In places where the soil has been contaminated by chemicals or even radiation, aeroponics systems have been used since they don't rely on soil. The Genesis Project, an effort based in Kiev, Ukraine, to monitor radiation from the Chernobyl site uses aeroponics as part of a botanical research facility, as well as one of the primary methods to produce fresh, safe food for the long-term residents of the site.
