Groundwater is found in open spaces between rocks and within porous sediment itself under the ground. Water flows downwards into the soil as it settles on the earth. As it seeps further underground, its filtered through sediment and soil before finally resting in pockets between impermeable stone and rock.
Wells access aquifers beneath the earths surface in order to draw up groundwater from underground.
