A silage cover seals silage during the critical stages of fermentation and feed out. Exposure to oxygen during fermentation can promote the growth of aerobic bacteria which reduces silage quality, nutrient contenat, palatability, and results in rapid spoilage of the final product.
During feed out, exposure to air introduces problems like nutrient loss, growth of mold or other microorganisms which can affect the health or productivity of lifestock. Covers also protect the finished silage from contamination from birds, rodents, and insects.
