New Developments in Sludge Management

New emphasis on clean water worldwide and improved sanitation procedures in developing countries has altered prospects for regulation of sewage sludge and produced several new initiatives and funding sources. One such research effort has been a project of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation since 2012. Especially in Africa and Asia, there are ongoing demonstration projects underway that deal with increasing awareness and interest in fecal sludge management programs.

A few of the benefits that result from these efforts include:

  • Reducing the potential for human contact with harmful pathogens by establishing onsite sanitation systems
  • Minimizing odor and controlling the discharge of organic matter from overflowing tanks or pits
  • Stimulating economic development and creating new employment opportunities for native populations, as well as establishing opportunities for contractors, equipment installers and sanitation workers in varied locales, and for operators of treatment facilities
  • The potential for creative reuse of the end products of sewage and septage, including recycled water for agricultural use, soil conditioners that include compost and fertilizer, and new energy products that may include biogas, cooking pellets, industrial fuel, or electricity

Types of Liners Produced by BTL

Geomembranes and liners for containment and conservation of water are the heart of our business at BTL Liners, and we fabricate liners in all sizes and for all conceivable applications.

The containment and conservation of water is vital for the future of the earth and its populations. At BTL Liners, we currently can fabricate the largest impermeable liners in the industry and we have clients across the globe who rely on our experience, ingenuity and excellent record to help solve pressing needs for containing of liquids of all types in a variety of commercial, industrial, and governmental operations.

If you’re interested in learning more about the industry leading products we offer to help you meet your containment and processing needs, simply contact us to set an appointment. We will be happy to work with you to supply the information you need for a current or potential project.

BTL has designed and constructed liners and containment systems for these and many other types of projects. Whether you need a prefabricated liner for a standard above-ground container, a custom design for a free-form fishpond, or a large-scale liner for a commercial or governmental project, no idea is too large or too complicated for us to consider.

Let us help you with your current or future needs for:

  • Recreational pond liners
  • Lake liners
  • Energy Industry liners
  • Ranch and farm liners
  • Fishing pond liners
  • Environmental liners
  • Pits and conservation solutions
  • Commercial containment liners
  • Waterscape projects
  • Storm water containment
  • Government projects
  • Hazardous containment projects
  • Liners for oil, gas and mining projects

We have been meeting the demand for high-performance liners and containment systems for more than four decades, and we are an acknowledged leader in the field.

Advanced Materials

When it comes to water liners and geomembrane containment systems, material matters. At BTL, we fabricate liners made from reinforced polyethylene (RPE), reinforced polypropylene (RPP) and low-density polyethylene (LDP). Our RPE and RPP liners are stronger, provide better puncture and tear resistance, weigh less and have excellent UV resistance when exposed to sunlight. Unlike the weaker PVC materials used by some competitors, our RPE and RPP liners don’t require a geotextile underlayment when placed over raked dirt, even if it contains rounded rock.

Extremely high puncture resistance sets BTL apart from the pack. Our RPE and RPP liners are some of the most versatile liners on the market today. Geomembrane containment systems and liners made from RPE, RPP and LDP provide superior water loss prevention, soil and erosion control, protect against contamination and prevent seepage. Contact BTL Liners for more information about which material would be best for your liner project.

At BTL Liners, the largest portion of our geomembrane containment systems are our liners. Water liners, liners for fracking and the safe extraction of natural resources, pond liners, liners for commercial purposes, custom liners, liners for sewage lagoons and specialty geosynthetics – you name the purpose, and BTL has the liner for your needs.

The Role of Liners to Control Wastewater and Sludge

Wastewater treatment involves a variety of processes, no matter what the source of the wastewater may be. Treatment, whether of sewage, industrial liquids that contain varied toxic chemicals and other contaminants, or wastewater from mining and drilling operations, typically requires the containment of large volumes of liquid in holding tanks or lagoons that are designed to prevent seepage into the ground from any container, tank, or lagoon.

It is vital that solids or semi-solid particles are allowed to settle to the bottom of the containment area, so that the liquid can be dissipated through aeration and/or evaporation. The process may involve weeks of containment, followed by manual or mechanical removal of any sludge that remains.

It is obvious that the lining material for such lagoons and holding tanks must be strong, puncture-proof, tear-resistant, and resistant to both chemicals and ultraviolet light, in addition to having a “lifespan” that makes the liner economically feasible for extended use.

BTL’s wastewater liners have all the required qualities and more, and they can be custom-made to conform to your size and design specifications. Whether your storage containment systems are in-ground or above ground or are massive lagoons or movable containers, we have the best products to meet your needs.

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) liners are an obvious choice for sewage lagoon liners because they have the necessary strength, density and resistance qualities needed to supply many years of reliable service. The liners can be fabricated in a variety of sizes and configurations, from ready-made rectangular liners for portable containers, all the way up to 150,000 square-foot custom onsite installations for sewage lagoons. No job is too small or too large for our trained team and BTL is known for its innovation and forward-thinking, results-oriented approach.
