Securing Your Liner
If you plan on having a pump or water feature in your fish pond, you will want to think about where any power cables and hoses will go at this point in the process. With a smaller pond, you can place your pump in the desired position and run the cord to the side of your fish pond. Make sure to test your water features before moving onto the next step. It’s safer to ensure that it works now than have to take half of your pond apart to get your water feature back out.
The edges of your liner are typically secured by burying the edges in a simple anchor trench or anchor shelf. Be sure to dig the trench or shelf consistent with water level. The perimeter of the pond can also be dressed up using decorative hardscaping such as bricks, pavers or stone if desired. You can get more details about this by calling us to discuss.
Consider Adding a Wetland
If you plan on stocking your pond with a variety of fish, aquatic creatures, or plants, you may want to consider adding a wetland to your fish pond. This will allow plants and animals that need shallow areas to flourish in your new pond. To create a wetland, add a semi-circle of sand along the edge of your pond. Build this sand up into a mound. This sandy area should be constantly wet, allowing you to grow plants that like wet feet but do not survive when fully submerged in water.
